Popular American actress Angela Bassett is “always bothered” by the sweeping comments that she hears. One of them is “You look good for your age.” For her, beauty is something that lies inside.
The 63 years old believes that if one takes good care of herself or himself, he/she will look good. “But what does beauty have to do with age,” she asks. According to her, age and beauty are two separate entities and “should not be mixed up and confused with each other.”

Prevention / For Bassett, appearances are deceptive.
However, this is not the first time that she has opened up on the subject. A couple of years ago, she had told her social media followers that “she keeps hearing ‘you look good for your age,’ and she is deeply bothered by it.” By then, the actress had revealed that she can not find any correlation between the two.
Nevertheless, more often than not, she handles the comment like a pro. That is, she does not heat up the moment. Rather, despite the fact that she gets bothered, she smacks it off her shoulders.
The 9-1-1 Star Hears ‘Judgemental Comments’ All Day

“The other day, I was roaming around in the market when I saw a woman with luggage heading towards me,” the 9-1-1 star once told Allure. She went on to say: “As she approached me, she had a gentle smile on her face. It is not too late when it turned out that she was about to ‘insult’ me with her sweeping compliment.”
Bassett then revealed that the woman said: “You look young” which was bothersome for Angela. But she had replied to the sweeping compliment with a taunting and humorous response. “For the fact that I am in my 80s, it is so good to hear!” she responded.
But Bassett has a whole different view of beauty. She believes that beauty is by no means the appearance and outer structure. Rather, it lies inside. “To develop that beauty - deep inside - I have dedicated almost my whole life,” she asserts. This makes sense when we look at her legendary characters like Tina Turner, Rosa Parks, Ramonda, and Betty Shabazz. Deep down in all of her characters, lie inner beauty. Something that people can not see easily.

Likewise, her black characters are so deep in meaning and so realistic to the current age. “I started playing back characters 45 years ago, and you can see what deep meaning those characters carry,” she tells Allure. She goes on to say: “There is beauty to being black. Can those people - who do see age and beauty - see this beauty as well. I bet, they can’t. How about the complexity of being black? Isn’t that a beauty in itself? You see, people always fail to see the actual beauty - the one that lies inside - and go for appearances which are always deceptive.”
