THIS WEEK IN HISTORY —
Did you know...?
- During 1952, the celebrity panel
game show I've Got a Secret
premiered on CBS. Who was the
original host of the show?
BONUS: Can you name at least
two of the earliest panelists?
- During 1978, the movie version of
Grease opened in North American
theatres. Who starred in the
popular flick? BONUS: In which
high school did much of the
action take place?
ANSWERS BELOW
- Radio and television personality Garry Moore was the first
host to introduce each guest by saying, "Whisper your
secret to me, and we'll show it to the folks at home."
Earliest panelists included Bill Cullen, Henry Morgan,
Faye Emerson and Jayne Meadows. Created by
comedy writers Allan Sherman and Howard Merrill, it was
similar (but more informal) to another Mark Goodson-Bill
Todman panel show What's My Line? The original version
of the television show premiered in June 19, 1952, and ran
until April 3, 1967.
- Greaser John Travolta and good girl Olivia Newton-
John were featured in the movie set in fictional Rydell
High School (actually filmed at California's Venice High
School). The film also starred Stockard Channing, Jeff
Conaway and Eve Arden. The movie's title song, written by
Barry Gibb and featuring Frankie Valli, remains a favorite
on oldies rock and roll radio, and the musical version
continues to be featured in auditoriums across the nation.
